The Central Colleges of the Philippines Bobcats Cheerleading Team emerged on top of the 2012 National Cheerleading Champsionship (NCC), which was held on March 18, 2012 at Philsports Arena (Ultra) in Pasig City.

A total of 19 teams vied for the championship this year. The defending champion team, from the University of the Cordilleras, begged off from the competition after the school management decided to remove cheerleading from its list of supported activities on safety concerns.

This is the fourth time that CCP has bagged the NCC championship in six years. And now, they hold the record for garnering the highest score in the last five years.

What made the victory that much sweeter, according to CCP President Crispino P. Reyes, was the fact that "CCP's winning score this year is a record breaking 322.5 points."

I'm proud to say that my school, Central Colleges of the Philippines, are back with a vengeance this year to reclaim the coveted National Cheerleading Championship Title. This 2012 the CCP Bobcats, considered as one of the best cheer squads in the Philippines and even in the world.These are proven by awards that the group has received throughout the years. Note that they have competed in international competitions like in Australia , Japan and Singapore, bringing the Philippine Flag and showed that we too can compete in this very rigorous "sport".

The competing schools also did very well as they are also the cream of the crop from their regions. The National Cheerleading Championship (NCC) may be on its 7th season but has already brought in the best squads in the land like University of the Cordilleras (UC Jaguars), University of Perpetual Help Dalta - Altas (Altas Perps Squad), University of the Philippinesand the Far Eastern University (FEU Tamaraws). The art of cheerleading is not that easy as I have seen the CCP Bobcats on the routines at schools that they would practice even at the wee hours of the night. Same goes with other schools who also traveled far to join the competition.

This year's championship marks the 4th champion win for the Bobcats (2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012). Last year the team came only at 3rd yet this did not let their spirits down, rather focused on how to get the champioship back. They also recently joined ABS CBN's Showtime Campus Clash and won 1st place. Now here is the final scores of the top 5 squads in the college COED division:

I can say I'm not fit to be a cheerleader but the glory and pride they earned are a great motivation for all Centralians and hope that we can keep the title in the following years ahead. Now let's see the winning moment of the Bobcats in their video.

The National Cheerleading Championship is the Philippines’ first and only cheerleading competition that employs American rules and regulations.

The annual event, which started in 2006, is modeled after the US competitive cheereleading competitions.

It is the only Philippine cheerleading organization to date that has brought in American Judges in its competitions as well as its Camps and training sessions.

The NCC’s aim is to bring together the best of the best in a National tournament. The NCC finals are based on qualifying tournaments organized by the NCC.

Bobcats Host Biggest Cheer Camp In Philippine History

Boom! And just like that, another Philippine cheerleading milestone is set.

A record 700 campers descended upon the CCP campus last weekend at the “Pasasalamat” Open Cheerleading Camp hosted by the CCP Bobcats.

“This was the biggest cheerleading camp ever held in the Philippines!” said camp director Mic Bustamante. “Although it was a challenge, we are very happy we were able to accommodate everyone who came.”

Campers from over 20 high schools and colleges came with almost all members, hoping to take advantage of the expert level skill and instruction provided by the NCC instructors and the 3-time national champions CCP Bobcats.

The camp, which was organized in only a week’s time, nonetheless drew cheerleaders from all over Luzon, proving once again that the sport getting more and more popular among the youth every year.

“We are overwhelmed with the numbers”, said CCP head coach Arnold Villanueva. “We just wanted to share our blessings with all cheerleaders. It shows that the sport of cheerleading is still growing by leaps and bounds!”

Campers were taught the basics and advanced skills in stunts, pyramids, tosses, safety and spotting, as well as the opportunity to interact with fellow cheerleaders and experience one-on-one coaching from the NCC.

“We anticipated about 350-400 initially”, said Villanueva. “But as the days went by, more and more teams asked to be included. Of course, we couldn’t refuse them, so we designed the camp to try and accommodate all. ”

Because of the large number, the NCC decided to divide the campers into two groups, each facilitated by the members of the NCC and the CCP Bobcats. Morning and afternoon sessions were moderated by two different groups, and were interchanged after lunch.

“We decided to hold simultaneous sessions in two separate areas, with the groups exchanging venues after 4-hour intervals”, NCC National Director Paula Dela Llana-Nunag said. “This was the first time we did this and it turned out great! We made sure the campers were still able to learn a lot despite being in big groups.”

The NCC camps usually draw 175-250 campers in a single day, already a big number by Philippine standards. This time, however, the cooperation of the Bobcats allowed for a bigger number of campers, something even the NCC considers no small feat.

“This is an accomplishment, even for the NCC!” said camp director Karla Rosales. “It’s heart-warming to see cheerleaders so eager to learn and improve, and to see the Bobcats – whom we also taught before—so eager to teach! Congratulations to everyone who made it happen!”

The large number of campers was attributed to teams’ preparations for the National Finals, scheduled on March 16-18 at the Philsports arena in Pasig. It was also a chance for most teams to try out the new carpet-bonded foam mat, which will be used as the official competition floor.

“The floor is the only one of its kind in the country today,” said NCC Head Nino Caruncho. “So we wanted as many cheerleaders to learn and practice on it before the Finals get underway. This was a great opportunity for the athletes to try it out. From the looks of it they enjoyed themselves a lot.”

The NCC will be holding another cheerleading camp for the NCAA on Feb 18, this time in preparation for the NCAA competitions on March 2.

BOBCATS CLAW COMEBACKING TAMARAWS, RETAIN NCR CROWN

The CCP Bobcats showed just enough skills and experience to edge out the Far Eastern University Tamaraws and retain their crown in the 2012 NCR Qualifiers at the SM Mall of Asia over the weekend.

The 3-time National Champions scored a total of 292 points, lording it over the rest of the field in basic elements, stunts, and tumbling categories.

“We are proud to have won the NCR Qualifiers again”, said Bobcats head coach Arnold Villanueva. “This season will be tougher with the entry of FEU. But we will be ready. I’m excited.”

The Tamaraws, who finished 3rd in the recent UAAP Cheerdance competition, scored a 288, while leading the field in the tosses category. This marked the first time since 2009 that the Tamaraws participated in the Nationals.

FEU also got a big boost from 2011 Champion coach PJ Natiola, who manned the coaching duties together with veteran coach Jackie Alolor. Natiola guided the University of the Cordilleras Jaguars to the National championship last season.

“I am glad to help out my alma mater”, said Natiola. “This is a great comeback for FEU, and we’re looking forward to making a bigger splash in the Nationals come March.”

The ADMU Blue Babble Battalion maintained their 2nd runner-up spot for the second year in a row. Mentored by Team Pilipinas head coach Randell San Gregorio, the more athletic eagles topped the pyramids category, en route to a 257.5 total.

“I’m happy with our performances these recent years”, said San Gregorio. “We always make it a point to execute well no matter what the competition is showing. See you in the Finals!”

Other finalists include: Dela Salle University (4th), Rizal Technological University (5th), City University of Pasay (6th), Lyceum University (7th), and Unibersidad De Manila (8th).

Central Colleges of the Philippines Cheerleading Team - CCP Bobcats Joined the well known show of ABS-CBN´s SHOWTIME this January. Showtime have a new edition called Campus Clash Edition.

Many team from different school around the Philippines joined this Competition.

They won the daily qualifiers, weekly finals and the Grand Finals and were lucky to get the 1.5 million Pesos.

CCP Bobcats Ranked #3 in the Philippines

Good News!

Congratulations to all our cheerleaders, team officials and school officials.

I know you really worked hard to get this rank. I can still see the greatest passion in your eyes. Keep that!

Its not easy to get to the top 3, i know how stressing and tiring it is but after all you proved us that you are still one of the kind. We may have some problems but we are solving it as one family We are very very proud you.. You are good example to many cheerleaders.You have wishes to get the title back, i can tell you.. Work harder to reach your goals! Its gonna be very tough competition next year. Lots of team are really great this year.

To our fans, Thank you for being there for us.
